Electing by the Moon: Positive and Negative aspects

Electing by the aspects of the Moon is the poor man's version of electional astrology. William Ramesey, whose Astrologie Restored (1653) contains an extremely thorough treatment of elections, sniffily remarked that the method is best suited to people who "have not the capacity to understand or judge the Rules of Art", though he conceded that time pressure sometimes prevents the setting of a proper electional chart. Vivian Robson saw some value in the method and commented in his Electional Astrology (1937) that "at least [it] is better than no method at all, for it ensures favourable lunar conditions if nothing else".

Two cardinal rules of electional astrology should be noted even if you are only planning to use this simplified form. Firstly, the elected moment must harmonise with the nativity of whoever intends to benefit from it. Even a technically perfect election will fail if it afflicts the angles or important significators in the nativity. Secondly, most authors agree that the Moon should never be placed in the 1st house at the beginning of any new enterprise or venture.

The general rules that follow are adapted from Ramesey's Astrologie Restored p.128-9 and the 'Aphorismes of Bethem' given in Henry Coley's Key to the Whole Art of Astrology (1676) p341-3.

Libra Full Moon: Access your Natural Self (Julia Bondi)

Intuitive Message for the Libra Full Moon:
Access Your Natural Self

The rise of the independent self, the me, the "I am" of Aries is the strength of the human spirit springing into life. Fresh, new, vibrant and ready for life, these are the watchwords of the inherent self that seeks to live, to become. As we breathe in the sweetness of the spring air, relish the beauty of the spring flowers and feel the promise of new life around us, it is a time to remember that we are alive. How vibrant do we feel as we greet our day? How fresh is our approach to each new challenge or opportunity? How much time do we allow to find sweetness in our days?

Much is written about the selfishness of our era, about the excessive focus of most of us on what I want and need. At this Full Moon we are offered a time to reconsider that we may be not who we are or who we want to be — but who we think we must be, or who we have become by following the paths laid out for us by family, school, culture or partners. Often there is too little development of the true, Aries self and too much reliance onthe false Libra self who seeks to please, to be accepted and to do what will bring us power with others. Each signs medicine is always available through the opposite sign.

The Moon is in Libra at this Aries Full Moon, reflecting back to us the true self we must be if we are to be ready for love, partnership and equality in every facet of our lives when Libra is in the ascendancy. Libra as the reflection is the light of the love we must develop for our self as we become self aware. The true self flourishes in the light of loving attention. Let this Full Moon be an inspiration for us to give more time to loving who we genuinely are — not what we think we are, or think we need to be. Who am I? This eternal question seemingly eternally difficult to know is instantly apparent when we cease trying to know the answer with our mind. "Who I am" is readily available, insistently calling out to be heard when we stop and listen with our loving, Libran heart. The child in us does not need to be told who it is or what it wants, just to be given the loving environment to naturally be free to follow its own instincts.

Individuation is built on the foundation of a well developed, instinctive person who is at ease with their own nature. The Full Moon of Aries/Libra is the ideal time each year when we can more easily access our natural self, our instinctive knowing of who we are and what we really want. To trust that we do know ourselves and our destiny is the path to manifesting the life that will be fulfilling for each of us.

Libra Full Moon: Making Peace & Love with Others (Dana Gerhardt)

Libra Full Moon Ritual:
Making Love or Peace With Others

What gives you an orgasm? Why does passion fade? Oprah recently began her show with these provocative questions—on the Friday that Venus and Pluto, the planets of love and passion, were square. Not everyone enjoyed lusty thoughts, for these two planets also deliver the dark underbelly of desire: jealousy, loneliness, and rage. That same day James Harrison discovered his wife with another man. Learning that she planned to leave him, he killed himself and their five children the next day.

It was the First Quarter Moon and a wild weekend, with Pluto also stationing retrograde, and Mars (warriors, gunmen) opposing Saturn (the authorities). A number of horrific gun fights made the news. We should hope this Libra Full Moon will be more peaceful—but also that we use it well. Full Moons are turning points, times to make our peace with whatever issues we’ve been embroiled in. With Venus retrograde (from March 6 to April 17), your emotions may have been running high these past few weeks. You may feel particularly urgent about getting what you want—especially in relationships. With both Venus and the Sun in Aries, it’s only natural to be looking at your partner and thinking, "What about me? Where’s my joy?"

If you’re satisfied with the others in your life, the Libra Full Moon is a perfect time to balance in the bliss of that. Drink it in. Whether you’re loving the back-and-forth you share with a romantic partner, your work mates, or your children, this Venus-ruled Moon is the best Full Moon of the year to celebrate such pleasures. Your happiness or passion will inevitably fade (novelty and the chase, say experts, keep our passion meters high). But the very impermanence of your bliss is what makes it special.

If you’re not feeling your bliss, this is still a wonderful Full Moon for working relationship magic. Perhaps there’s a particular someone on your mind, someone who sparked intense feelings at the First Quarter Moon, when Venus and Pluto were square. Don’t let this Full Moon pass without shifting any discordant energy! If you’re stymied at how to do this, sit quietly at sunset and ask the Full Moon for help. Or use this wonderful meditation:

Libra Meditation
by Pythia Peay

To invoke the spirit of harmony in your relationships, bring to mind a person with whom you are engaged in some kind of conflict.Clearly outline the differences between the two of you; what "she" did, or "he" said and how you feel otherwise. Then imagine that that person is seated across from you. Next, open your heart to that person; if you do not love them, at least cultivate a sense of respect for their individual autonomy that is separate from you. To deepen the feeling that the person across from you is not just your opponent, but a child of the divine, address them as "thou." Cultivating such an attitude of respect opens the door of empathy; putting yourself in their place, you begin to see how things appear from their perspective. Slowly, like the dawn of a star, you begin to glimpse the situation that has divided the two of you from their way of seeing. After you have thoroughly immersed yourself in the viewpoint of the person opposite you, return to your "side" of the argument, then review your disagreement in light of the understanding and insight you have just gained. Similarly, imagine that the person opposite you, in body and in point of view, has undergone a similar process and is now able to see things from your perspective.

Now imagine that throughout this process, some alchemical magic greater than the two of you has been working to sort through your differences. In this heart-opening process you have conceded something; so, too, has your partner. This interchange, and mixing and matching of views, has resulted in an open flow of energy between you. Now, instead of the impassable chasm that has separated you, a current of warm feeling streams between your hearts. The two of you have somehow managed to retain your individual perspectives; yet at the same time your relationship has been magically balanced so that you have achieved a momentary equilibrium - a heaven of harmony.

Conclude your practice by contemplating once again the symbolism of the scales of Libra, and the harmony and beauty of Venus. Then bow to "the other" in your life, and give thanks that this situation has come into your life as a wise teacher who has taught you how to live in right relationship with others.

Confidence in the Future (Daily Om)

Confidence is so closely related to optimism because it is only when we feel good about ourselves that we can feel positive about our future prospects. To believe that success is waiting for us in the future, we must regard ourselves as being deserving of and capable of attaining success. Though our triumphs naturally serve to remind us that we are capable accomplishing greatness, true confidence comes from within the soul. It is entirely possible to believe in oneself without ever having achieved any particular goal because self-belief is a product of the knowledge that we are willing to do whatever it takes to realize our dreams. Hope flows naturally from our determination and provides us with the strength to move forward. You will know that success is in your future today because you understand that your potential is limitless.

I AM There (James Dillet Freeman)

Do you need Me ?
I am there.

You cannot see Me, yet I am the light you see by.
You cannot hear Me, yet I speak through your voice.
You cannot feel Me, yet I am the power at work in your hands.

I am at work, though you do not understand My ways.
I am at work, though you do not understand My works.
I am not strange visions. I am not mysteries.

Only in absolute stillness, beyond self, can you know Me
as I AM, and then but as a feeling and a faith.

Yet I am here. Yet I hear. Yet I answer.
When you need ME, I am there.
Even if you deny Me, I am there.
Even when you feel most alone, I am there.
Even in your fears, I am there.
Even in your pain, I am there.

I am there when you pray and when you do not pray.
I am in you, and you are in Me.
Only in your mind can you feel separate from Me, for
only in your mind are the mists of "yours" and "mine".
Yet only with your mind can you know Me and experience Me.

Empty your heart of empty fears.
When you get yourself out of the way, I am there.
You can of yourself do nothing, but I can do all.
And I AM in all.

Though you may not see the good, good is there, for
I am there. I am there because I have to be, because I AM.

Only in Me does the world have meaning; only out of Me does the world take form; only because of ME does the world go forward.
I am the law on which the movement of the stars and the growth of living cells are founded.

I am the love that is the law's fulfilling. I am assurance.
I am peace. I am oneness.  I am the law that you can live by.
I am the love that you can cling to. I am your assurance.
I am your peace. I am ONE with you. I am.

Though you fail to find ME, I do not fail you.
Though your faith in Me is unsure, My faith in you never
wavers, because I know you, because I love you.

Beloved, I AM there.

The Well-Rythms of Change for the Ancient World

This is a message from Eliana Gilad which I'd love to share with you.

"This is a video from the ancient well at Tel Megiddo, also known as Armageddon. The rhythm of The Well is sung in the background, by... yours truly :-)...

It's hexagram 48 of the Yi Ching. On Feb. 1 & 8th, there'll be a major cool 2 part telecourse - Opening the Space for Change, to help you connect deep within yourself to your own well of inner wisdom.

You can learn more about it here."

Desires vs Thoughts (Abraham-Hicks)

Your emotion, your indicator of vibration, is indicating the ratio between your currently focused desire and any other belief or thought that you hold about same. When you feel negative emotion, anger about something, or fear... the name of the emotion does not matter, it always means that there is a desire within you that, in this moment, you are contradicting with some other thought. Your emotions are always about your relationship with your own desire, and nothing else.

The Highly Sensitive Person (Elain Aron)

In her book "The Highly Sensitive Person: How to Thrive When the World Overwhelms You", Dr. Elaine Aron defines a distinct personality trait that affects as many as one out of every five people. According to Dr. Aron's definition, the Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) has a sensitive nervous system, is aware of subtleties in his/her surroundings, and is more easily overwhelmed when in a highly stimulating environment.

In defining the Highly Sensitive Person, Dr. Aron provides examples of characteristic behaviors, and these are reflected in the questions she typically asks patients or interview subjects:
- Are you easily overwhelmed by such things as bright lights, strong smells, coarse fabrics, or sirens nearby?
- Do you get rattled when you have a lot to do in a short amount of time?
- Do you make a point of avoiding violent movies and TV shows?
- Do you need to withdraw during busy days, into bed or a darkened room or some other place where you can have privacy and relief from the situation?
- Do you make it a high priority to arrange your life to avoid upsetting or overwhelming situations?
- Do you notice or enjoy delicate or fine scents, tastes, sounds, or works of art?
- Do you have a rich and complex inner life?
- When you were a child, did your parents or teachers see you as sensitive or shy?
Dr. Aron explains that in the past HSPs have been called "shy," "timid," "inhibited," or "introverted," but these labels completely miss the nature of the trait. Thirty percent of HSPs are actually extraverts. HSPs only appear inhibited because they are so aware of all the possibilities in a situation. They pause before acting, reflecting on their past experiences. If these were mostly bad experiences, then yes, they will be truly shy. But in a culture that prefers confident, "bold" extraverts, it is harmful as well as mistaken to stigmatize all HSPs as shy when many are not.

If you find you are a highly sensitive person, then you need to be aware of the following points:
*) This trait is normal--it is inherited by 15 to 20% of the population, and indeed the same percentage seems to be present in all higher animals.
*) Being an HSP means your nervous system is more sensitive to subtleties. Your sight, hearing, and sense of smell are not necessarily keener (although they may be). But your brain processes information and reflects on it more deeply.
*) Being an HSP also means, necessarily, that you are more easily overstimulated, stressed out, overwhelmed.
*) This trait has been mislabeled as shyness (not an inherited trait), introversion (30% of HSPs are actually extraverts), inhibitedness, fearfulness, and the like. HSPs can be these, but none of these are the fundamental trait they have inherited.
*) The reason for these negative misnomers and general lack of research on the subject is that in this culture being tough and outgoing is the preferred or ideal personality--not high sensitivity. (Therefore in the past the research focus has been on sensitivity's potential negative impact on sociability and boldness, not the phenomenon itself or its purpose.) This cultural bias affects HSPs as much as their trait affects them, as I am sure you realize. Even those who loved you probably told you, "don't be so sensitive," making you feel abnormal when in fact you could do nothing about it and it is not abnormal at all.

HSP: Highly Sensitive Perception People (Jenna Avery, CLC).

How To Tell If You Are Highly Sensitive

Being Highly Sensitive comes with a number of gifts, as well as challenges. See if any of these Highly Sensitive qualities resonate strongly with you.
You are deeply affected by all aspects of your life. As a Sensitive Soul, you have great emotional passion, intensity, and depth. You may have been told that your emotions are “too much.” You are sensitive, caring, and easily affected by the energy and emotions of others. These qualities make it easy to lose touch with your needs and desires.
You have heightened perceptive skills. A Sensitive Soul is intuitive, highly aware, and keenly observant of the subtleties of your environment, including energy, light, noise, smell, texture, and temperature. You may also be empathic or even psychic. Your perceptive skills operate in the physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual realms. You tie together things you see into complex and original concepts. This makes you a visionary.
You have a lower tolerance for stimulation than others. Because you receive so much information from your surroundings, your threshold for what's "too much" is significantly lower than for those around you. This means: a) You may be seen as shy or timid; and b) You may feel uncomfortably dissimilar to others because you respond so differently to stimulation.
You are highly conscientious and thorough in all your undertakings. A Sensitive Soul makes a great employee. You concentrate intensely and process multi-source information. However, you require privacy, uninterrupted time, and little or no pressure in order to do your best work.
You have a strong relationship with aesthetics and art. As a Highly Sensitive Soul, you have a passion for beauty, art, and aesthetics. You may be highly artistic and creative yourself. You easily create beauty and comfort. Seeing things 'out of alignment' can actually be physically or psychically distressing.
Your inner life is just as intriguing and inspiring as your outer life. You likely have a rich, complex inner life and are highly imaginative. You may find it challenging to connect to 'real world' priorities and realities.
You absolutely require private time alone in order to feel replenished. Up to 70% of Highly Sensitive Souls are introverted. But even extroverted sensitives need downtime to rejuvenate, often in a darkened, quiet room.
You have a strong spiritual connection and depth. If you are Highly Sensitive, you experience a profound spiritual connection with the divine and/or spiritual realm. You 'see' a lot in what appears common. Because of this you may feel impatient with the truly mundane.
